Power over Ethernet or POE is a technology to supply power and data over a standard twisted pair cable in an ethernet network. The technology is used to power POE cameras. Using POE makes an extra power adapter unnecessary. This is especially useful when the IP camera needs to be used in a place where power supply through the wall socket is difficult to achieve. POE can be provided in two ways: through a POE Switch or via a separate POE injector. A POE Switch can often supply multiple cameras, whereas an injector is only for one camera.
